.308 130gr bullet ??
I have a question. I have always deer hunted with a ruger m77 270 cal rifle, reloading with the 130gr sierra bt bullets. I like the long range accuracy I get with that lite bullet. I have just purchased a Remington model 7 in .308 cal I would still like to get the same long range with that gun as I do with the 270. I noticed Barnes makes a 130gr XLC BT for the .308. can I expect to shoot as flat of tragectory, andwith about the same range as the 270. ( my 270 velocity is around 3000 fps) what can I expect out of that 130gr .308 bullet. I wonder what the expansion is like on that bullet to. Thanks

Depending on your idea of long range...yes and no. The 130 .308 will do fine, but remember a bullet that weights the same but is bigger in diameter is going to be shorter and have a lower BC. The barnes are copper though, so the might actually have comparable BC. Idunno. What I mean to say is, within typical hunting ranges they should be comparable, BUT when you start talking LOOONGG range 500+ (perhaps sooner) the 270 will have an advantage.

I would go with a .308 165 gr. Barnes XLC BT (SD .248; BC .505). The SD and BC aresimmular to a .277 130 gr. XLC BT (SD .242; BC .466). According to the "Barnes Reloading Manual Number 3"you can push a .308 Win. 165 gr. XLCBT 2956 f/s (I used 3000 f/s for comparison) which will be close to the preformance of a .270 Win. 130 gr. XLC BT going3000 f/s. The .270 Win.130 gr. XLC BT @3000 f/s will shootabout .130" flatter at 100 yds., and 3.38" flatter at 500 yds. Your trajectory will vary, due to real life conditions. Good luck.
