I will never use the SST's again. Last year I shot a big buck at 80-90 yards (7MM Mauser) and the 140 gr bullet went through the 10 ring like a hot knife through butter....no expansion! Had to shoot the buck a second time....that one didn't expand either. This was a 250 pound animal. I do not trust the SST's. This year, I went back to Nosler BT's in my 7 Mag and the Sierra Game King in my '06. Regards, Rick.

I kinda had the opposite experience with the SST's. Out of a .270 Ackley at about 3,350 fps, the 130 grain SST worked pretty well on an antelope. On a big whitetail buck at 400 yards, it expanded quite a bit - more than I would have expected due to the distance. But on a cow elk at about 150 yards, it exploded in the shoulder. Second shot hit the spine just behind the shoulder, and that one exploded as well. In that caliber at least, I thought they were too soft for animals bigger than deer size.

In the 30 caliber there is an over looked bullet that is a fine long distance bullet and does not cost an arm and a leg to buy and that is the Remington bronze tip. I have seen 650 yard shots with it in a 30/06 using the 150 and the 180 grain and the killing power was amazing. In the .270 the 130 grain bronze point is quite powerful and it flys flat for a long distance. Agood choice and save a bunch also.

The Speer 165gn SP HotCor performs well out past 200m on deer and wild pigs from my Ruger 30-06. Five group into 0.91” at 100m.

For BIG and tough deer, Sambar, I use Nosler 180gn AccuBonds. Three group into 0.39” at 100m.

I use a 30-06 and have for the pasr 19 years...I have tried the Nosler partition and found that it was a good round but then one day I was working on some reloads for a friend and he was usinf the Hornady SST...I tried the 150gr sst in my 30-06 and founf that it was {in my eyes } better than the Nosler partition....I got very good long range and excelent knock down power....I have since changed both of my brothers over to the SST and they like them as much as I do...
