BKMSTR, just curious on how the ice conditions were when you were there, The Bou didn't seem too cautious but were the hunters going on the ice much?? thanks ,Rodney.

RE: Quebec Winter Caribou Hunting
We were told ice conditions were not very good. They got a heavy blanket of snow before the ice was very thick and this tends to insulate the ice a little from the cold weather and causes it to freeze slower. We saw plenty of animals on the ice, & heard of one french guy riding a snow machine on the ice, but that was it. I watched a bull knock his antler off about 20 yds off shore on the lake I was hunting. I walked down and cleared the snow off down to the ice and stomped my boot & my boot broke right through. Now I know lakes always freeze around the edges last, but this did not give me a warm feeling about walking out to get the shed. I did not see any caribou fall through the ice though.
On the flip side, it was getting colder by the day while we were there. It started in hight teens and till we left on the 26th it was in the single digits.
