Quebec Winter Caribou Hunting

Fire, I can relate. I like to do some bonus ptarmigan hunting while I'm there. Since the the Mirage is booked solid during the early part of season, we can no longer arrive early like we used to. The bird hunting is a nice addition, we always have a blast chasing them around.

I book immediately for the next year, but there is no availability for booking an extra day anymore. We used to be able to do that. But, that was before they started booking 100% full. Your going up for the first hunt, so there isn't anybody before you. That's why you still have that option. I like the freedom that bonus day gives you. No big rush to get there. Also gives you a chance to see what's happening.

The map will be out soon. Long way for most of you to drive. I would call the lodge where you are staying before I went. If there worththeir salt they should tell you where the animals are. And right now it's not looking good. Wait for the map they don't lie.!!!!!

Oh boy!! I don't want to stick my foot in my mouth. But for the last 3 years the migration pattern has changed. Right now the weather here is crappy but it's not cold enough in my opinion to make them move down. In fact, they've gone back north as you can see by the maps. And the 4 lodges there are feeling the pinch...big time. If the caribou keep up with what they are doing, the Quebec government is going to have to do something. You can't keep paying $400.00 an hour to fly in a helicopter. Or whatever it is now. And even that won't help unless they move because they are not in the hunt zone. Don't everybody jump my case please. I'm waiting just like the rest of you.
