RE: UMBRELLAS?????
Just my two cents, I am someone who has been hunting for 23 years.
I see nothing wrong with using umbrellas. If it’s windy enough or raining I will not be hunting anyway period. The wind could misdirect my arrow or the rain if hard enough would enable the tracking of the deer/game. I believe the whole reason behind 3D shooting is to keep the archer shooting and therefore a better more accurate hunter/shot. Furthermore if I drive for hours to a 3D shooting event and it’s raining or windy enough! I see no reason not to use what is available to protect me from the elements. I just want to shoot, stay comfortable and not get blown around when I am aiming.
I agree with NorthJeff, this is not a sport that is simulating hunting situations, however it is teaching you how to judge yardages and making you a better shot due to the fact your shooting more!
Have fun, meet new friends/other hunters, talk about hunting experiences and see different places.
You should also consider that not all of the shooters are hunters! I don’t know about you? But I want this sport to grow and hunters or not to keep joining IBO, ASA … to help keep the sport alive, 3D and hunting. That is the bottom line! I don’t know why you’re complaining about umbrellas?

Hotshot:
Yes, that's a great idea, all of the 2000+/- shooters waiting for the perfect weather and not shooting in a light rain or wind! It is the competition that allows/brings on certain rules, because they cannot wait for the perfect weather! I believe to make it somewhat fair to shooter A that shoots on Friday in the rain/wind, with an umbrella and posts his/her score is somewhat comparable to shooter B that shoots on Saturday in the perfect weather. I think that is the idea/reason behind the umbrella.
I am not going to wait for the storm to pass. I will use the umbrella so I can finish and head back home. All three National shoots are 5+ hours away, so I am not waiting until Sunday to shoot, that’s if Sunday is any better.
If you want to complain about umbrellas I am sure the traditional shooters could open up a whole can of worms on us compound shooters. Especially to speed things up though the course.
This is my second year shooting the IBO and I never heard anyone complain about umbrellas! So I am wondering where all this is coming from?
I had a great time last year and hope this year is a repeat! I hope I don’t end up with shooters crying about every little thing they don’t like this year.
My vote is for the umbrellas to stay.
Have a good one and good luck to everyone this year.
