Pa buck tags
I think Pa should issue a doe tag with every backtag and make hunters apply for a buck tag WMU specific like they do now for doe tags. and make NR wait to apply for them just like they do for applying for doe tags now.

RE: Pa buck tags
In every post you make and also in your signature you have less doe tags....now you want to issue 1.5 million doe tags with the back tag and make hunters draw a buck tag......your simply trying to start an argument.

RE: Pa buck tags
Cause the mindset of the PA hunter won't allow it. They put tooooo much emphasis on being able to shoot "thier" buck. Most can't even follow the point restrictions we have now. And then you are going to tell them they need DRAWN in order to shoot a buck....they will laugh in your face and shoot the buck anyways.

Rob: you are taking for granted that an est. 1.5 million back tag buyers even hunt deer at all. I know many guys that only hunt turkeys , I know others that only hunt waterfowl,, others varmits, etc. Also let us not forget the success rate of hunters in general. And those that now are limited to 1 doe tag with the issue rather than applying for 6,8 or more each year.
I work with a guy that had 8 doe tags this year his kid had 8 and his wife had 8, now that's a little much don't you thionk? He came to work bragging about all the meat he was tossing out just keeping "the good parts". Give that guy 3 doe tags for him, his kid, his wife total and see how much is wasted.

RE: Pa buck tags
There are not 1.5 million licenses for deer in pa.
The PGC press release says for this year it is estimated at 800,000. Which would be a DECREASE since Pa issued 1,040,000 doe tags this season.
Many people have brought up the subject of buck tags drawn in a lottery and one doe tag per hunter.....that is not new. And it makes sense if you don't want to kill as many doe as Wing has said before.
But, the PGC says more Doe need killed so it will probably be the PGC who is asking for more doe tags for 2005, and wing being the conservative asking for less. Makes sense to me.

One thing I have noticed in dealing with anything. If you want quality a lot of the time it will cost you quanity! Everyone is screaming for better quality deer and then are suprised when they are seeing less deer! Letting them grow a year or two older is not all that is needed. You need to reduce deer numbers giving the quality deer more room and food! If you let a deer grow for 7 or 8 years but only feed him every other day he is not going to be a quality buck! You need to remove more doe's and scrap bucks to get that buck out of peoples yards eating non nutritional house plants and back into the woods eating the quality foods he needs to grow to his full potentail! Quality = less quanity! Get used to it!

keep in mind that the plants in yards are very nutritional for deer and thats why you will see that a buck who lives in or around a neiborhood is going to be a big buck if given the chance to age. and also there is so much research going on now that is proving that it is getting harder and harder to tell what young racked buck will turn into when its older. some of your small 4 and 6 pointers may never get much bigger and some of your spikes may be monsters in a few years. and i seriouslly doubt the state will shell out money for food plots for deers nutrition in any kind of attempt to satisfy hunters. the bottom line hard facts are this. the more people build and move into an area the more animals get moved out of the area and the more people means more hunters and so the only way you can replenish the numbers is simply to do a full statewide lottery for tags, and or shorten the season. i know this takes away from kids and people who cant take off work and yadda yadda yadda but do people honestly think that adding ar's or taking them away or issuing this tag and that tag is really going to help the problem? no it wont. there are too many hunters and not enough game obviouslly. and you have no idea what illegal hunting does to the numbers of deer either so reducing the hunting will produce more deer for the future in pa
