RE: NY Hunter orange bill passed??
from what i saw on local tv, the bill for blaze orange has passed as a bill and sent to the governor to sign. he didn't sign the same bill last year and may not this year either. the bill says you must wear a cap or vest that has a total of 450 sq.inches of orange during the regular big game season. it doesn't matter what weapon you are using , if you hunt during the regular (firearms) season you must wear it .i think it would be too late to implement it this year even if the gov. signs. 450 sq. inches would be alot. probably a vest and hat eventhough it says hat or vest. i usually wear orange til i get to my stand and switch to camo once i'm safely up into my treestand so i may be looking for blaze camo for the future. don't like it but didn't like seatbelts at first either .good hunting!

willjcobb - the amendment to the bill IS NOT season specific - that is the problem.
"Section 1. Section 11-0901 of the enviromental conservation law is amended by adding a new subdivision 17 to read as follows:
EVERY PERSON HUNTING FOR BIG GAME WITH A RIFLE, SHOTGUN, PISTOL OR REVOLVER SHALL WEAR A MINIMUM OF FOUR HUNDRED SQUARE INCHES OF SOLID OR PATTERNED FLOURESCENT ORANGE MATERIAL ABOVE THE WAIST OR A HAT OR CAP OF SUCH MATERIAL. THE MATERIAL SHALL BE WORN SO IT IS VISIBLE AT ALL TIMES IN A THREE HUNDRED SIXTY DEGREE ARC.
No mention of archers or anyone else - just the above weapons while hunting BIG GAME (for Beaglefreak).
That is one problem. Another is a case could be made according to the wording that a 400 sq inch vest OR a hat or cap is required. Shouldn't be this hard to write the bill properly, but what do we expect from a bunch that can't bring in a budget ever before their vacation.
One other issue - the DEC website states current voluntary compliance is over 80% - I've heard as high as 86%. Also heard the compliance rate in the states where BO is mandatory is around 80% - WHAT are we going to gain other than another revenue source.
