My dad heard some shooting near him in Sullivan County. He saw and 8-point, 9-point and a 4-point up there at camp. Those reports are just as good as a bear report.

A friend I car pool with heard on the news there was a 500 pound bear shot. He did not state where but it probably was the Poconos.

That 500 pounder could have been Lycoming too. We had a couple go over 600 before and I shot one 3 years back at 420 and he was only 3 years old. We have 20 people at our camp but I didn' t hear yet so I' ll have to wait and see.

Bearklr, do you eat bear meat? I heard much of it is waste as in too greasy/fatty.

Bear meat is awesome. Way better than venison. At least that' s my experience.

I know 3 guys that got bears yesterday. 185# boar, 175# sow, 80# cub. I think today will be much better hunting with fresh snow and no terrential downpours.

Bear meat is much darker and has a stronger flavor. I always eat everything I kill, and bear is no exception. The only difference is that I don' t get steaks or anything like that. I have the entire thing processed. We get sausage, bologna, and sticks made. I have heard that some of the roasts can be good if prepared the correct way but I' ll take bear sausage over other sausage any day. Mine was excellent.
