Default TROPHY BUCK POACHED

IN WILLIAMSPORT SUNGAZETTE front page article on a trophy buck being poached.

this was in cumming township area of lycoming county,pa.

the huge buck was found next to a vehicle that was stolen over a 30 ft bank near WATERVILLE,PA.

PGC is sure the buck was transported in the stolen vehicle and shot with a rifle.

this happened a few years ago in area i hunt.

i hunted the SPROUL stateforest in the rt144 area between renovo/snowshoe,pa.near beech creek rd.

i believe they found 8 bucks with heads cut off.

i said it before, the harder it is to get a buck or deer, the MORE you will see this happening and much earlier than most poachers do it.

i can remember a fellow worker who told me he got caught shooting a buck with crossbow about 20 years ago.

he paid a 100 dollar fine.

i said, WOW, I BET THAT HURT YOUR POCKET.

he smiled and said,SPROUL I SHOT OVER 100 DEER OVER YEARS,I GOT MY MONEYS WORTH.

SO, THERE YOU HAVE IT.

i believe this is happening a lot.

most of it is happening near or on PRIVATELAND near homes, camps, farms.

this is where these big bucks are and doe too.[:@]

Probably be less of that if the GW's were out aggressively pursuing the real poachers instead of hanging around the boat docks harassing guys for having a walleye 1/32 of an inch under the size limit.

if the PGC would just pay for our gas,we would do the nightime watching for them.

we asked about that and were given silly dumb looks by harrisburg.

I agree with you sproulman.

It saddens me to see a headless carcass in the woods. Unfortunately, that person will continue to do that over and over again because they do not have any respect for the resource. They also do not have any respect for you, me or any of the other sportsmen in the woods. A fine is just a slap on the wrist, because chances are that this is the first time they have been caught. Only they know how many deer have hit the ground by their hand, only to rot. Why did they do it? To get a rack, not to feed their family, but to put some bone on the wall.

Disgusting!

Is it because deer are harder to get or is it because the fields actually have trophy bucks in them and not a bunch of spikes or 4-points??? Unfortunately, poaching has been happening forever and it will continue to be a real problem until the fines and penaltys are increased. No form of management and/or hunting policies will ever change it, just good old fasion punishment.

both of you are right.

i understand that penalties have been raised but it does not go far enough.

jailtime, take their guns, vehicle,no license forever and big fat fine and take away their SSI check and their disability check too.

that would stop it quick.
