RE: COULD BEAR DO THIS?
i used to fish bass tournaments in 5 states in 1980,s.
there were lakes near baltimore i used to fish, i cant remember names off hand.
i also fished the mattawoman on potomac with some of pros that are now on tv and my boat is from RICK CLUNN and i still have it.
they used to sell their stuff after we fished in tournaments.
boy, that was a lot of fun in your area,i knocked a lot of propellers off in that river at 60 miles per hr.in tournaments.

RE: COULD BEAR DO THIS?
I have seen where a bear has gotten up in the middle of winter, and he never went after pine cones either. He had a deer buried in the leaves and one warm day in the dead of winter he went for a snack and dug that deer out of the leaves and dragged it to the top of some ledges to snack on. It was some strange to see bear tracks in the snow up here.

RE: COULD BEAR DO THIS?
i was out to pipelinesfriday with a DCNR employee that was in this area, this area is called HYNER RUN,PA.
as far as you could see almost every tree was pulled out of ground or broken off ,hundreds and hundreds of trees.they said this goes on for miles.
on the tubes that tree is in,there are TEETH marks like someone shot the tubes with no.5 shot.
none of these trees were PINES.
i could not believe the amount of damage.
these trees were about 10 ft high..
there is no tree laying on ground also, they were carried away somewhere by a BEAR ..
[:-]
dont laugh, i saw it and DCNR says it was bears and its first they ever saw bears do this also.

RE: COULD BEAR DO THIS?
phil, our bears are out in winter and ONLY male ones.
our weather is warm/cold all winter.my dog followed bear tracks to his den and week later tracks were coming out and in.we have a 500 pd bear that is roaming camps ,right now in kettle creek area.
during our latest coyote hunt we saw bear tracks ,this was in same area that pine and fruit tree was pulled over and needles and some of bark eaten on limbs.
and it was certain needle pine that was eaten, it was not spruce type it was real long needles about 8 inchs with like a little cone thing on end.only trees that are laying on their sides is the pines with the long needles, the spruce pines in between are still standing and no damage?
soon i will be learning how to put pictures on here and how to use my camcorder.
i agree, i never heard of bears eating trees until i talked to DCNR and they said, they do.they showed me the damage and i was shocked.
