I never let my kids havea video game and 1 of mine wont really even watch TV. Parents gotta keep these kids on track and working their minds.

We also make sure they are involved in sports that will create a lifetime of exercise. Even when they were young I would take them in the mountains in the cold and snow and impress upon them the need to be tough and not look for the hunting spot where you can drive to your spot.

i am seeing different things than ,somewhat anyhow.

first, hunters dont come here like 30 years ago, you can see that in clinton/potter county.

its do to lack of deer.no other REASON

but i saw more hunters in clinton county/potter than i did in number of years.

so, i had to investigate.

most i saw were crews driving.
i wondered why all of sudden in last few years all these crews are back.most were from out of area too.

well, it was easy to see, most had 4 to 7 hunters under age of 17..

i have not seen that in years..

i know what is driving it too,its the BIDWKT.

its ONLY reason.

as for archery, just opposite ,it was almost all old farts like me hunting everyday, not 1 kid i saw with bow,not 1.

but in rifle season, lots of kids and some took off school ALL WEEK.they drove same drives ,over and over.
most crews got 5 small buck and hardly any doe for whole week of hunting.

some crews never saw deer for 3 days.

if i had to put average of crews who drove all week with 15/18 hunters, i would say they got average of 3 bucks and 1 doe,i heard 1 crew got 5 buck for 2 weeks of hard hunting and 2 doe.
another crew got 1 small buck..

most of the bucks i saw were very small horns, few nice ones but 90% were spikes or 4 points.

I see a couple of you guys like to belt out a few reasons for lack of hunters,,the usual ,,gas prices,,,lazy, dont know how to hunt ,,not walkin far enough back in,etc...(which really does read like a buncha PGC BS propoganda). But after the last 6yrs of hunter dissatisfactory typed on this website alone,,ya'll just refuse to add it to your lists! If you really wanna be politically correct, fair and balanced,etc....you should really try to hide somewhere in your posts,"alot of hunters are just plain,,down right pissed off! You will feel alot better about yourself and your posts if you just be honest.

The guys that are pissed off are probably the guys who shot 2-3 doe each year over the past 6 years.

I guarantee it.

Well, you are certainly entitled to your opinion, but just because you feel that way does not necessarily mean that any of my or some other's posts on here don't convey honest feelings. There certainly is no doubt that the number of deer in 2G and other WMU's has been reduced. Never argued with that. I've been a hunter in 2G for nearly 20 yrs., and a camp owner for 14 yrs. I've seen the changes. I was a camp owner or attendee at a camp in the Tionesta area for about 30 yrs. before that. I've seen the ebb and flow of it. Been there, done that. Gone through the huge numbers of deer that were seen on opening day. Listened to the unending gunfire from daylight until mid-morning. Loved it!! But you know what? When the situation started to change, and I learned to understand why. I also learned to adjust the way I hunted, and the locations. I didn't sit back and whine about the lack of deer, I went and scouted and found where the better areas were at that time. Too many hunters got spoiled back in the 60's, 70's and 80's by a herd that was too big for the carrying capacity of the ground. Theywill not accept the fact that scientific evidence and research are the tools to be used to adjust herd numbers, not the panicked screaming of those who continue to sit on the same log they did years ago and can't see or kill a deer anymore simply because they won't adjust.
I don't work for the Game Commission, but I DO try to understand and support their initiatives. I just simply don't undertand how some can think the PGC is out to ruin the deer herd. Times and further understanding and knowledge have moved ahead, and the return to the 100-deer per day sightings is probably done for good. It probably should be. I do feel that when the forests are permitted to regenerate, the deer numbers will increase again, but this will take a little time. Not a huge amount, but I certainly feel you will probably be around long enough to see some rise in numbers. I hope so, anyway!!
In the meantime, if you want to continue to harvest deer, I say you need to adjust. Since I killed my first deer in 1959, I've only missed harvesting a deer in two years since. A person needs to learn to adjust to a situation and learn from it to be a HUNTER!!

It is supposed to be hunting not shooting.

Enjoying the outdoors is what it is supposed to be. I wonder how many of the guys that filled their freezers with a couple does every year threw most of the meat away come summer.

Well said WillCz.

The trend in fewer hunters and those leaving earlier up north where I hunt started way before the AR/HR program. Hunting is still very good for those who adapt.

As for Sprouls fairy tale forest, who here believes that these huge "crews" swoop down on a woods that is virtually devoid of deer and work their butts off so they can kill the last few spikes and does. Oh and by the way, these "crews" manage to drag along a bunch of juniors just so theadults can use their tags. Gimme a break!

As always Sproul, your posts are outrageous and lack any kind of proofor coroborration. Just more tavern talk!

i have bar of IRISH SPRINGfor you.

wildman, you hit a nasty point with me, gives me chance to get more info out.

lets talk about after the doe are all killed out of area like you saidand you move to another area to kill doe there.

THIS IS WHAT IS HAPPENING ..[:@]

now, ole sproul saves a mother and fawn, in comes hunter from area he wiped out doe.
now he is in area i grew up in and takes and shoots the 2 doe that are left.[:@]

THEN he gets in his truck and moves to another area..

this is what the PGC/DCNR wants you to do.

this is why they started the WMU,S that we have now..

we would save our doe and have deer each year, they did this WMU thing, now we have hunters coming in that dont care about IF there is doe left for next year.

they dont feed deer, dont belong to local sportsman clubs, i know, i ask them.they dont care.[:@]

many of us like to hunt close to home, we dont want to be driving all over stateBUT these others ARE and most dont care if they wipe out every doe left..

when you see crews from out of county driving the same drives over and over until they get every last deer out of there,i know, i saw it this year..

its not only thedoe that are taking it ,its the SMALL BUCKS ALSO.not given chance to grow up.

look at my comments, notice that more small bucks were taken than doe.this is because honest hunters are leaving little bucks go per AR rule and only shooting doe, then in comes the dishonest ones and are shooting small bucks and ANY doe.

now my area is almost devoid of deer..

i have great habitat in my area i hunt and very few deer are left..
it broke my heart after seeing that mother/fawn shot by that crew..

some people stopped and asked them why they would shoot mother with her fawn, they wanted meat and are MOVING ON.

i took this week and went to most of camps i know in area of clinton/potter.
the camps with rosters with hunters over 16,MOST did not even have deer on roster.

gangs that came in without a camp and had kids, for 1 week, they avg 3 small buck and 1 or 2 doe.

these same deer were left go by the camps that did not have kids or were trying to save a fawn.
you can see that they are mad, they are trying to save deer so we have deer and in comes CREWS from out of area , no camp, get out of trucks and drive the drives 3 TIMES until they take every deer that is left out of that area THEN they move to another area like you said we should do.

when we had county only doe tags we had deer, thats way it should be to stop these MEAT hungry kill and move to another area hunters.[:@]
