No Sproulman,I'm not hurting the future. The ones that are hurting the future are the ones that put their own need to see dozens of deer a day before the habitat.I'm seeing deer becauseI hunt where deerhave a reason to be,not where I want them to be.Sustainable habitat is the key to the future of hunting.

This past year I got 4 dmap tags all within 3 miles of my house in 2G and another one in an area in southern Cameron county.I had a great year in 2G.Some days I saw no deer and some daysI saw quite a few.As usual however,I saw very few hunters in some spots and no sign of hunters in other areas.Once again,I made Sprouls hall of shame by killing 4 doe and a nine point in 2G.I also killed another doe in 3c.Guess what Sproul?I still feel no guilt about it.Hunters are having very little effect on the deer herd in most places where I hunt because there's not enough people hunting these areas.I hunted one public dmap'd area the last two years and killed 4 deer in 5 days of hunting.

Just how many DMAP tags can one hunter get ? Can he get two from each land owner ?
Qualified landowners participating in DMAP, receive a limited number of coupons (determined by acreage) that they will make available to hunters, who, in turn, may redeem them for a DMAP antlerless deer permit to hunt on the property for which they are issued. Hunters may use them during any established deer hunting season for 2007-2008. Coupons are issued to landowners at a rate of one coupon for every five acres in agricultural operations, or one coupon for every 50 acres for all other landowners.
Important Points
[ol][*]Under no circumstances may an antlered deer be taken with a DMAP permit.[*]Landowners may not charge or accept any contribution from a hunter for a DMAP coupon.[*]Hunters may not obtain more thantwo DMAP permit per property. However, DMAP permits do not impact a hunters' eligibility to apply for and receive antlerless deer licenses issued for Wildlife Management Units (WMUs). DMAP permit allotments are not part of the annual general antlerless deer license allocations for WMUs.[*]Hunters must mail completed DMAP coupons, along with a check or money order made payable to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, to the address listed on the coupon to receive their DMAP antlerless deer permit. The fee for the coupon is $10 for residents and $35 for nonresidents. The permit can be used to harvest one antlerless deer on the specific DMAP property.[*]All DMAP antlerless deer permit holders are required to report, regardless of deer harvest success, using the provided report card or via the website at www.pgc.state.pa.us by February 8, 2008.[/ol]

RE: deer numbers in PA
Losthorn,I only hunted one day in Cameron county this year.In fact,It was on the last day and I had to be back in Dubois by 11:00am so I really only hunted for a couple hours.I only saw one deer in that time but it was the biggest buck I've ever seen, dead or alive. The area I hunted was loaded with tracks but once they go over those steep sidehills, they're gone.No way can hunters be having an impact on the deer population in those areas. My buddy hunted bear on the first dayjust outside of Emprium on the way to Smethport.I wasn't there but he claimed that he saw several deer and loads of tracks in the clearcuts of Seneca resource property.I have another buddywho's property borders Senenca's in that same area and he had a good season up there.
Make no mistake about it.I'm not claiming there's a tone of deer in 2G and there shouldn't be.The habitat is terrible. However,if you concentrate on areas that have adequate food and cover, you'll most likely find plenty of deer.Once the habitat recovers, deer numbers will as well.

RE: deer numbers in PA
Another thing to consider Wildman,is that Moshannon state forest is broken into three seperate dmap units around your camp.Moststate forests don't do that so it's probably unlikely that a guy could get more than two in most areas unless someone knows about properties enrolled but not publicized on the PGC website.I understood your point.
What I'd like to know is how all of these guys in Sproul's area can fill all these tags if there's no deer. It's especially surprising considering that roadhunters killedmost of them and the ones they didn't get were killed in the early muzzleloader season and tagged by youth hunters. What are the mountain lions supposed to eat?

I hunt both private and public land and make no apologies for hunting on private land when I do.
The truth is that there is still quite a bit of private land that is wide open and available to the public in all the WMU's wher I've hunted. The ANF for example, is public ground I do a good bit of my hunting there. Thereare also a very large number of landholders in the ANFlike Collins Pine. Their property is posted heavily with signs that say "public hunting welcome"
As a matter of fact, the vast majority of DMAP tags available for 2F this past season were for private land OPEN TO PUBLIC HUNTING. There are fewer deer than 10 years ago but still plenty of them and the quality is way up.
Why would ol Sproul continue to distort the facts about where I happen to hunt? Maybe he's embarrased that he can't seem to find many deer in good numbers on public land or open private land when others obviously can!
By the way Sproul, anythird grader who passed grammar can tell you that private land and public landare two words and not one. Oh andstate forest land andnational forest land are three whole words!
