RE: deer numbers in PA
I also hunt and live in Indiana county and yes I agree. THE DEER NUMBERS ARE DOWN! Way down .. I've been hunting for 30 years and I have never seen it this bad. Coyote numbers are way up but the decrease in deer numbers isn't because of the coyotes or bad winters. We have had mild winters and there has been an abundance of food the past few years. The Pa. game commission acomplished what they set out to do . Kill all the deer. Now they are trying to figure out other ways to create revenue because a lot of guys are giving up hunting and young people aren't interested. Have you noticed how much land has been posted the past few years ? The land owners want to save a few for themselves.

RE: deer numbers in PA
yea.... Mentioned before about driving..... we usually sit till about nine each day then start putting on drives. My first few years it wasnt uncommon to see fifteen or twenty deer each drive. we saw three the whole opening day this season....... is there any hope of it getting better?? I love spending the time with my family, so I will not quit hunting, but I am strongly considering not shooting anymore for a few years, I didnt shoot one in PA this year, all my deer came from ohio. Wher I am in Ohio I see five to ten every night while bowhunting. and when we put on drives there are deer everywhere, BIG bucks too. so why did PA want all the deer gone?? is it mostly due to car collisions and such??

I see archery hunters as thieves.
A stick and string doesn't make a noise and if a person wanted to - they could shoot one of more deer a day.
Per a capita - is a big joke? You don't have to earn a living to shoot a deer.
Any real archery hunter will tell you that all you need is the last two weeks - when they are in the rut.
The only advantage to hunting in archery season is that all the deer are still in the woods and you have a better than average chance of shooting a big one if there are ones in your woods to shoot. But not all the deer shot in archery season are tagged.
You have lot’s of slob hunters that shoots deer and does not tag them, because they still want to hunt the traditional rifle season with their families. Noting stops them from not abiding by the antler restrictions either.
I don't eat the antlers, I care more about getting meat for the table. I could care less if the deer was a trophy 10 - point buck or a half rack spike.
If the archery hunters has first dib's - then some of the bigger racked bucks are all gone by the time that rifle season comes along.
If you really were serious about archery hunting. Then you would agree with me that they should make archery season after rifle season.
Then I would like to see just how many dedicated archery hunters there would be out there.
The only reason for archery season was to sell more licenses - because the archery hunters knew that they had a better chance of harvesting a nice buck if they got to hunt first!

WHAT A BONEHEADED STATEMENT TO MAKE!
If the goal was to reduce the kill, it'd be the doe tag allocation that would be dropped first.
It's an undisputed fact that archery and muzzleloader hunters harvest less deer percapita than the rifle hunters despite their longer seasons.
The only reason to make a statement like that isto try and divide hunters. PETA would be proud of you.[:'(]
Not shooting the deer is not going to save them, but cutting the season in half for muzzle loader and archery would.

rifleman, not many bucks are killed with bow here in wmu2g in archery with bow.
to much pressure on ones left.
now, the early oct thing for muzzleloader/rifle thing, i agree with you.
this is terrible thing to have in archery, allowing a hunter to carry gun/bow,thats nuts.
having gun season in archery is ONLY asking for hunter to shoot a nice buck with gun and stick arrow in hole.
look at most of big bucks that were killed this year in archery, most were shot that week that you were allowed to use gun in october to hunt DOE only.
i hunted all of archery,it was tough to even see deer this year in archery with pressure that was on deer.
funny, almost all big bucks i heard killed were taken that week of gun in archery..
must be better to have all hunters with guns firing after doe to get big buck with bow that week..
i will let everyone draw their own conclusions on that one.

Rifleman, You cant be serious.
1. It is tough to get a buck with your bow know matter what.
2. It takes a hunter to get one with his bow. Bowhunters spend more time in the woods than any rifle hunter on average guarenteed. Bowhunter learn where they eat, sleep, and travel.
3.Bow hunters are better sportsman than riflehunters. Most only want to shoot a big buck.PERIOD
4. They pay an extra 15 dollars. That almost as much as the regular license.
5.MUzzleloaders hurting the deer herd? Now this is where i started putting on my hip boots because some brown liquid was getting pretty deep.YOu must never hunted with a flintlock. I hunted with a group of 6-8guys this year-we hunted the whole season, only 3 of us killed a deer. Of the 3 who killed deer 2 of us hunted everyday. WE put are time in. I say we had over fifty shots and only 3 deer were killed. No deer were wounded either.
Rifleman, by my opinion you sound like the majority of hunters that just rifle hunt. That fine. DONT take it out on other hunting practices while its riflehunting thats doing the damage. Anyone can point a rifle and shoot. Its not very hard. Bow hunting takes kill you have to jugde what the distance, practice religously, and spend hundreds of hours in the tree stand, oh yeah the hours of scouting, etc. I know lots of jane does that hunt rifle just hunt the first day and are succesful who dont scout. How many bowhunters can go out and not scout and be succesful. Not MAny- i dont care if its rut or not. Most of the years bow hunting is out when therut is getting good anyways.

Learn some more about deer hunting. Take some grammar lessons. Oh and by the way, look up per capita. It means per person! then come back and see if you can make a rational case for your position.
I'll simply say that you can whine all you want but archery hunting and long archery seasons are here to stay and idiotic rants like yours above aren't going to change that.

I have never killed a big buck with my bow. i have hunted with my bow for about ten years. i have killed 3 buck with a bow, 2 8pointers and a 7 Pointer. Nice deer but not trophys.I have killed plenty with my rifle. I have killed 3 wall hangers with my gun. Plus plenty of other nice bucks. archery season is after rifle season too Rifleman. IF bow hunting is so easy why dont you do it.
