RE: NY turkey opener
Had a great weekend.
Friday: several gobbles, set up and had 2 hens by and then some jakes snuck in (I was sbnoozin')
Saturday: more gobbles first thing; set up in same area and had several jakes in (4 or more), could have probably shot (15 yds) but they were tightly bunched
Sunday: no gobbles (one very far away), set up in a slightly diferent spot but then there were some closer gobbles so I moved to same location (bit different) as day before, one gobble in the distance and then a bit closer (no really talking to me), then the gobble is right on me and suddenly there are 3 birds dead to my right (3 jakes); got my gun up (I am right handed, so I had to shoot lefty - 1st time for that), last 2 birds backtracked so I got on the lead bird, he gobbled and I shot, my grampa's old Ithaca 16 ga. dropped him in his tracks - double bearded (4" each) and 15#
Fun weekend.

RE: NY turkey opener
Customers as well as friends of mine are all enjoying good luck with cautious and tight lipped birds. Im hunting a small lot near me thats recently been logged, so Im having some new wrinkles to add to the coyote/fox predation so far this year. But the birds that are still alive are showing themselves on a slightly irregular schedule, one I wish would match up better to mine! I had a customer take a beauty, 11" beard with 1 1/4" spurs with a bow in a bow only area of Rochester. I have already found two mature toms remains in that woodlotthis year.
