Default non-hunter needing advice!! :)

Hello!
I have no life, so I spend all my free time walking around in the woods near my house I live in Vermont. I have some questions. I'm a sixteen year old girl who is just barely five feet tall, and am therefore a very good target for someone looking to rape, murder, etc. My question is this: would you say that it's dangerous to be in the woods, alone, during hunting season? And what precautions do you think I should take besides wearing neon orange clothing? Is there a big chance that someone hunting could hear me walking through tall grass or bushes, and would just shoot without checking to make sure of what it is making the noise? And is it less dangerous to walk on land with "no hunting" signs posted, or do people generally disregard those? Thanks for your advice!!

First of all you should never walk alone in the woods. Also make sure you tell someone where you will be.Definitely wear your orange.Hunting is very safe but you always have those isolated accidents. If you know of an area that guys are hunting try to avoid that area until they are gone.Keep safe.

Be careful, wear orange.

Some things are true whether you believe them or not.

Vermont is VT, not VA. If your from Virgina, don't wear orange while pumping gas.

Heck,
No need to fear. You are safer in the woods during hunting season than walking the streets of most cities, riding an ATV, or hundreds of other things we all do everyday. Like looking both ways before crossing the street though, or only swimming with a buddy, there are some things you should do to be more safe. Wear Blaze orange, especially a hat, don't crawl through the brush or other activities that would make a hunter think it was an animal and not a person, if you see a hunter, make sure he sees you, just like you would the driver of a car, make eye contact, waving at him with that blaze orange hat will usually get a friendly wave in return, be courteous, if you see a hunter, he probably wants to be left alone more than you do, so walking up to him is not considered real friendly (if he's right beside a trail, it's his own fault), always let someone know where you are weather in the woods or out on the town, carry a whistle in case you get lost or sprain an ankle. Probably a lot more sage advice around here, but what do you mean you have no life? Walking in the woods is great fun. Find somebody to take you hunting and you'll see that walking in the woods is a huge part of the enjoyment we all get out of it.

Jersey Joe has a point: hunting is much safer than pumping gas. I think you should spend as much time in the woods as possible, you are safest there. You will probably meet some of the best people in the country, good family oriented hunters just out to enjoy the great outdoors. Whatever you do, be careful of those animal rights conventions, they usually take place in dangerous cities. And besides, everyone knows many of them are on the FBI's list of Domestic Terrorists groups, and the ones that aren't, are being investigated for providing funding for terrorism. Man, that would be horrible to be suckered into joining PETA only to find out that your contributations were going to terrorism. Especially if your child ends up with some sort of cancer, a cancer that was nearly cured at a research lab, until one of those terrorists groups blew it up with money from your contribution. Yeah, that would be bad.

Get out in the woods and enjoy life before some animal rights person who has lost the capacity for reason and rational thought blows up some fur store or lab and gets you in the blast. Sounds like the safest place you can be is in the woods with hunters to protect you. Good luck. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

As has been said, wear blaze orange, especially a hat. Try to have a companion at all times, try to stay to the well marked trails as much as possible and if you see a hunter make sure he knows your there. I don't mean yell hello, just wave and get his attention. You'll find that the majority of hunters are the most ethical people around and will go out of their way to help you. Most important, always let someone know where you'll be and what time to expect you. The woods can be dangerous, the four legged wild life is every bit as dangerous as the two legged kind. Carry a celphone if available.
