RE: Last Day of PA Archery - Report
Had a good season. Really didnt hunt alot but finally took the last week off. Saw a total of 10 different buck for the week and about that many doe. The buddy I hunted with saw 10 buck also and we figure 2 of the ones he saw were 2 of the same ones I saw. We saw 3 really nice bucks an 11, and 2 nice 8's, plus 2 sevens the rest were 6 and below. Not alot of deer movement till late in the week. Some movement till about 9am then in the evening. THe later it got in the week the later in the day we saw deer movement.
Fri am about 9am I hear grunting behind me (i had put out a scent wick and the wind was blowing in that direction) and out pops a nice 8 point. THe biggest I had saw that week. I had the chance on 2 shots thus far for the week...a 7 and a really nice 6 with no brow tines which i passed on both...
The buck goes away from me...i tried grunting with no luck...I sit back down after recomposing myself and about 2 minutes later i hear a twig snap and hear he comes right underneath my stand to the scent wick.
I stood up drew back and I cant shoot cause there is one branch in the way.....he goes to the wick and snorts and jumps back about 10 feet and lands in one small opening at 12 yards broadside..I put the pin behind the shoulder and I hear that tell tale THWWIICK.... as the Shockwave blows thru his ribs...He bounds off with the tell tale mark where the arrow entered his ribs clearly visible...I get down out of the tree...the arrow covered in blood. I raise my Bow and Fists in theair in jublilation to the archery gods. I go get my friend to help trail...100 yards later there he is piled up ina brush patch...He actually turns out to bea 9 point (he had a double brow tine. 15-1/2" wide nice and high 7" G2s....
THis was my first archery buck in the 6 years of archery hunting and I was very pleased, after spending many hours in the stand and passing on ALOT of bucks.

I probably had the best season ever this year. I killed a real nice 9 and a doe so I'm tagged out. I seen over 100 deer for the season. However, I must say this is private, managed property. Elsewhere, I've heard much of the same. Decent bucks all over, but notmany deer in between.
The game comish is successfully forcing deer to live on private ground.
