RE: indiana rut
Firearm season opened the 18th last year if I remember correctly. In NE Indiana, they were nearly done rutting in my area by that time. The first week of November last year was heaviest and most busy rut I've ever seen. By Thanksgiving morning the past few seasons, they were grouped up.

I seen 3 or 4 bucks running does last year opening morning of shotgun. One was the big boy i had seen a week and half earlier in bow season. Then on the 21st i killed an 8 pointer that was after does. Normally, the 1st week of November is when i start seeing activity and it usually last through the first week of firearms. I am in the north central part of the state.

From deer and deer hunting tv this year the rut should start about Nov. 12 . The prerut chasing should start about Oct. 30 . That is 4 days after the second full moon after the start of fall ( Sept .21 ). best time to be in the woods will be first 2 weeks in Nov.

RE: indiana rut
The first two weeks of November have always been the best in my area, regardless of the moon..and other outside factors.
I saw a small buck do his thing with a doe the 2nd weekend of October in '01. A 9 point ran out of nowhere and stood 10 yards in front of my tree, stomping and dripping snot like crazy as he watched. I shot him a second later before he could bolt after the two getting it on.
