What was so good about them ? Deer were very scarce back then , and deer like the one in the pic were the stuff of legends . The deer numbers didn't really get very high until after the 60s , I grew up during the 60s and 70s and I don't recall seeing more than one or two .

land was defenitely cheaper back then, the 80 acres we own in central WI was purchased after the cedar shingle company that owned it went under and i do believe that we pay more now in property tax each year than we originally paid for the whole lot!

yeah, land was cheaper back then. And there were far fewer people posting their land because they thought that squirrel hunting on it in September would mess up deer hunting in october. There was also fewer big rack hunters who would kill several deer, then end up throwing most of the meat out the following year because they don't even like venison that much. This is one of those rare examples when i would love to see the clock turned back.
