Default Bowfishing season closed

Made a last trip down to Carlyle dam today with my cousin, Snuffy, Cliff and myself. Snuffy and Cliff in snuffys boat. After fishing all morning another boat that was also shooting fish got stopped by a CPO and told the bow fishing season closed on Sept 15th. Yep, sure enough down at the boat ramp is a sign saying bow fishing is allowed from June 15 to Sept 15. Bummer. We were wacking them pretty good. Ended up shooting 46 big heads and one nice possible state record Short nose gar. Of course I for got to weigh and measure him. but i got pictures and he is a wooper. So the power that be managed to screw with us bow fishers again. It is so ironic they want the fish gone and out, but will not let us shoot them. We managed to find a family who wanted all the fish. We unloaded both boats and they were trilled. Said that they had two cars and a suv to get them home. That they would clean fish tomorrow and then clean their cars on Monday. Was sure nice to see some one be able to use them. Cliff got to shoot his first, second through 15th big head's today. He had a blast. So that is the long and skinny of it. Christine is going to post pictures.

Yea, Isnt that nuts. What is so unfail. They put this stupid season on this small area. Yet will let commercial fishermen in to net. Last year they took out 30,000 pounds. As they say, 'Illinois land of stupid rules'.

Fishpoint. Yes, I would have been close. I did not even give it a thought until the ride home. Checked the short nose record just over 11#. So would have been close.

I'd bet Cliff was thrilled to get into bigheads for the first time.
