Default 2008 Houston Bowfishing Classic (Indiana) Results

HBC 2008 Follow-Up Report[/b]

With muddy waters from all of the flooding and thunderstorms, the 2008 Houston Bowfishing Classic attracted only 18 teams. Even with the weather and low number of teams, we were able to bring in 399 fish in our 12 hour shoot. Several records were broken in this year’s shoot: Big Gar, Big Bighead, team total, and tournament total. With the high water, there were only 3 teams on the Tippy and only 1 or 2 on the Wabash. The majority of shooters went to the creeks and lakes. River shooting only produced around 40 fish while lakes evenly produced the other 360 fish. It was hard shooting with the murky water and the rain/wind. A lot of people reported losing a lot of fish, especially whiteys. It’s definitely a fact that the grass carp have taken over our rivers, along with the big heads.
Evening out the winnings, we decided to pay out top five this year. Winning first place honors were Josh Middleton and Andy Creighton of Idaville, IN with 80 fish (the previous record was 36) for a $175 prize. Second place was taken by Nate Hardin of Flora, IN and Shane Nelson of Galveston, IN with 74 fish for $125. Third place was won by Alex Grable and Luke Whitkanack of Marshall, IL with 69 fish for $100. Clay Shoop of Delphi, IN and Tony Haan of Lafayette, IN finished fourth with 34 fish for $75. Rounding out the top five was Jarett Houston and Casey Watson of Delphi, IN with 23 fish for $50. The Big Carp award of a $100 gift certificate from Sportsman’s Warehouse went to Luke Whitkanack of team 7 with a 23.4 lb. bighead. The $50 Big Whitey award went to Kent Zimpfer of team 1 with a 15.4 pounder. The Big Gar Award of $50 went to Dustin Houston of team 1 with a tournament record 9.7 long nose. The Big Dogfish won Alex Grable of team 7 $25 and a Muzzy arrow. The smallest carp weighing .14 lbs. earned Jim Rice of team 13 2 Muzzy arrows. The tournament had 18 teams and 339 for a 22.16 average per team. Team 3 of Jarett Houston and Casey Watson won back their entry fee of $50 for their 23 fish and average joe award.
I’d like to thank all of our sponsors this year: Muzzy Products, AMS Bowfishing, Sportsman’s Warehouse, Charter One Bank, J&M Outdoors, The Office Tavern, Indy Spine and Rehab, McFadden and Haan Plumbing, Altimate Lawnscape, Pro Sportsman, and Zimpfer Construction. Thanks to all of you for supporting our tournament; without you the HBC wouldn’t be as good as it is. Of all the tournaments I’ve ever been to, I’ve never seen a prize table that could equal the one we had this year! Once again we were able to donate $100 to Fishing Has No Boundaries, so thanks to everyone that participated and donated to our tournament.
Although in the three years of our tournament we haven’t had the ideal weather conditions, we have produced the numbers and variety of fish that should make people take notice of the great bowfishing Indiana has to offer. We will be having the night shoot on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at River Junction in Americus, IN, and I know that we will harvest a record number of fish. We will be taking only 20 teams, so let me know if you want in. The HBC continues to grow each year, and with everyone’s continued support, we will be the premiere bowfishing tournament in Indiana. If I don’t see you at the night shoot, have a great year of shooting and I’ll see you next June for some Blood, Guts, and Carp Eggs!
