Default Carlyle Dam disappointment

Went down to Carlyle Dam today. Was with Snuffy and Had my son-in-law. We could not buy a fish anywhere. They were just letting out a trickle of water out the dam and what ever reason the gar were gone and so were the big heads. Snuffy got a glimpse of two just before the park ranger's ran us off. Boy what a crock. They claim that it is a recreation area and no projectiles can be shot any where. First of all we were recreating too and our projectiles had lines attached to them. What is a fishing pole with a lure being cast out. Is'nt that a projectile?? So we loaded up along with Christine and Kendall and headed down to New Athens to try there. Got there just ahead of a nice rain storm. Was windy, muddy and lots of boats. We did find a creek called Silver creek that we were able to go up a way's and shot some gar and one common carp before the sky opened up and dumped on us. long day for 12 fish and one of them was a shad. But was nice to see Kendall and Christine again.

Default RE: Carlyle Dam disappointment

We'll have to get the New Athens location figured out.I think Saturday afternoon isn't the time to go there. But it has potential.

Saturday morning/afternoon isn't a good time for below Carlyle either. How they cram that many boats in there is amazing.

We did do pretty good at Carlyle. We never got close to the dam and got into lots of bigheads on Friday night. It took us a bit to figure out how to get close enough to shoot them. In the end we only shot three, but we could have gotten more if we had given up on the spotlight earlier and just relied on the Hawglite. During the day Saturday we shot commons, gar and buffs. The only people to say anything to us were some bank fishermen who, upon watching a common carp get whacked, said "That's pretty cool!"
(we stayed in that backwater area)

We only got two fish at New Athens, we bugged out early after Rob called and said the storm was coming.[]

It was nice seeing you guys again, and thanks for the sausage.
