Backpack hunting in Namibia
Hiking the hunting ground during the day and sleep in the field at night. For backpack hunting one need to have an excellent physical condition as water and food supplies, sleeping bag, emergency kit, ammunition and other necessities needs to be carried along to make camp at night. We are always in contact with the ‘base’ in case of an emergency or if a trophy is taken. When a trophy is taken there will be responded to immediately; to get it out of the African sun to ensure no damage to any trophy. This method is very time consuming and not as much ground is covered as when driving to outlook points and stalk from there. Backpack hunts may only be conducted on Oryx, Burchell’s Zebra, Springbok, Warthog and although they are scarce in the area where we do backpack hunting, Kudu. On special requests backpack hunting can also be arranged for other species. To conduct hunting like this one truly experience the African Bushland and it’s wildlife. Guides need to pay more attention to animal behaviour and the secrets of the African Savannah.
