North Texas Deer Hunt
Hi everyone, this year I'm hoping to go on my first deer hunt (first hunt period really). I'm looking to find something not too far from where I live (McKinney) and hopefully not too expensive. I've looked around and most of the places I've seen are in west Texas and want some pretty hefty amounts to get a deer (normal fees, plus trophy fees, etc).
This being my first hunt, I'm not necessarily looking for some record deer, just something to get me started and make sure that I'll even enjoy hunting (as of right now, I don't think that'll be a problem). Hoping to find something not too far, not too expensive, that has some sort of guiding to it so I know what the heck I'm doing. Preferably if I do get a deer, some place that can walk me through the whole field dressing portion as well.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

RE: North Texas Deer Hunt
We have a couple of ranches about 2.5 hours west of you. One ranch is a little better that the other in regards to deer size average. Both ranches have high success averages one ranch is just north of Throckmorton and the other is in Shackleford county. Throckmorton hunt is $3500 the Shackleford hunt is $3,000 both free range. Throckmorton ranhc will average 135-140 with several each season 150 or better. Shacklefors 120-135 and they will kill a few bigger each season as well. Both are3 days, meal and lodging included.
Shackleford Hunt:
You will be hunting out of comfortable blinds with feeders and food plots. We see lots of game and have a 90% plus success rate. This area and surrounding areas have a high success rate and deer score from the 130's into the 160's. Trophy expectations are a realistic 120-140BC with larger bucks in the area. This hunt includes lodging in nice 3 bed room, 2 bath lodge and all meals and one trophy buck, one doe, two hogs and one turkey, either sex.
Throckmorton Hunt:
This hunt can boast a 90% success ratio on trophy whitetail bucks for last season while harvesting 4 bucks over 150 class, 5 over 140 class and 5 bucks that scored between 130 -140 class. Shooter bucks will average in the 130 to 140 class range with more than a few going above the 150 to 160 class range, and they have taken bucks up to 180 class. They maintain a consistant 1 to 1.52 buck to doe ratio. In order to keep the hunting at the trophy level they only allow a maximum of 3 gun hunts per year with only 6 hunters allowed per group. It has 15 gun stands and 17 archery stands that overlook 10 food plots and multiple natural food plots such as wheat and oats fields. They also maintain year round active feeders throughout the ranch and feed protein as well. This ranch has been under a quality deer management program the past several years and the quality of the bucks they are killing proves that it is working. The terrain although still Texas looking with plenty of Mesquite and cactus does differ from the flat south Texas landscape. This ranch has rolling hills, canyons and 6 miles of frontage of the Brazo River running through it. 1 trophy buck, 1 doe, 1 hog and unlimited varmints. If interested call me toll free 1-877-647-9926 or email me at
