Alabama is probably the best in January. I am leaving tonight and will be hunting til the 22nd in Barbour County. I live in Michigan and hunt January every year in Bama. Have a chance to go this week so I am going. Going back at the end of January as well.

Not much Public land in Bama. Majority is join a club orlook for a place that does payhunts. They are everywhere. You will pay $800.00--$1500.00 to hunt for 5-7 days in January when the "RUT" is happening.
