3-9x40 scope
Simmons 8 point riflescope. ( I know, bottom, end simmons... )
3-9x40, optics surprisingly good for $50 but it aint no Leupold.
Zero holding dead on. So far it stays where I set it, its fired probably less than 100 rounds 30-06, heavy rifle so recoil is very mild.
1/4 minute of angle clicks.. not very accurate, it supposed to move .25 inch at 100 yards per click, sometimes it does some times it moves 3 times that, BUT it so far stays on its setting
Accuracy, well when I sighted the rifle in after reblueing it, I shot a 1" group at a long hundred yards, resting over a log!! ( 1 inch average out of 5 groups, worst was close to 2" best was nearly touching holes )
Incidentally that is the best shooting I have done since I left the military in 1992! ( probably since I left the farm in 1985 )
Quality, well most here will tell you not to buy a simmons, I probably would not have if I had read here first... BUT if its buy that $50 simmons or dont hunt.. go for it.. IF you have the $$ to spend on better optics you woulds be a fool to go cheap there though.. My Simmons has so far been a Jewel, but I have heard much negative, so yours might mnot be..
Just my uneducated opinion!

RE: 3-9x40 scope
15 years ago, I bought a Simmons 3x9, mounted it myself and it was dead on, right out of the box. And for 10 years I never had to adjust that scope. It never fogged up and was always crisp and clear viewing. You don't always have to pay top dollar for quality. I wouldn't hesitate to by another Simmons scope.

I've had their Aetec model 3x9 on a 338WM for 5 years with no problems. A buddy has a couple of their 4 Mag models with no problems. I'm not familiar with the 8 point model but would buy another Simmons based on my experiences.

RE: 3-9x40 scope
My son has a 8 point 3x9x40 on his .300WinMag and has never had a problem!! I would loke to see him move up in mm though to a 44mm or above just because he does most of his hunting in the early (just before it gets light) morning and he has to keep switching to his binoculars to see what's coming in.
