Default Carson 80X binoculars...anyone use' em?

I saw these advertised in a magazine. They are 20X but can be adjusted to 80X with the flick of a switch. I' m wondering if anyone has a pair or ever tried them. I' m thinking it would be a good alternative to a spotting scope at the range. Are they clear at 80X top see bullet holes at 300+ yds? JDinAB

JD my neighbour just picked up a pair I am not sure if they are the same zoom but they have the lever and he said they are the cats backside. Clear with the ability to zoom in and really field judge from a long distance. We are heading up elk hunting next week, I' ll give them a boo and let you know the specifics and how they fair.

JD his were raptor 7-21 zoom binos and the were pretty decent (small & light) but at 21 zoom tended to be a little dark & hard to disquinish to my eyes. The price point seems decent but I prefer a fixed set of nocs and if zoom is required a spotting scope is still much better IMO (especially for range use or scouting!!!). I did try out a pair of pentax compacts 8-12 and they were extremely sharp for a small objective but they come at twice the price. I am unsure about the objective on the 20-80 Carsons, but I would think if similar they may be pretty dark and FOV will be extremely small...best advice give them a look and hopefully the shop will allow you to try them outside or a short trial period with ar eturn policy...optics are personal items and what I find may not hold true for you.

Good Luck

I figured they would be pretty dark considering the obj. size (probably won' t be much different than the ones you tried). I' ve learnt to pay for good optics too, I' ll save the money I would have spent on these and keep saving for a [pair of Zeiss. Thanks for the info pal...Good luck this season! JDinAB
