Default Heated Clothing

Does anyone use the new heated clothing made popular by motorcycle rides as a base layer or top layer for cold weather bow hunting? I am trying to cut down on the bulk of cold weather clothing but am concerned about freezing my marbles off in doing so.

I spend many hours perched in tree stands during cold season ( +10 to –15 ) and I don’t care for heated box blinds. My shooting skills depreciate immensely when bundled up like an Eskimo waiting to club a seal. I thought maybe some of the heated clothing would be an option but I know very little about it.

Thanks for any tips or recommendations!

I've used the heated socks before, but since i bought a new set of boots, I've not needed them. I generaly use the heat pads from walmart/cabellas on super cold days... 20 or below. they work well, and are fairly cheap.

I'm not sure what your base layer thermals are but I swear by military grade polypropylene thermals. They're not very thick but extremely warm. You can get them at any military surplus store or like website for about a total of $50.

I cannot speak for the clothing but the heated socks from Cabelas (Gerbring) didn't do squat for me. Felt no different than the chemical packs. In my opinion, JUNK!

Milwaukee is making a heated jacket that runs off of a battery pack and is supposed to last 6 hours. I tried one on at the store and they fit very nice and aren't too terribly bulky, but for $230 I havent had the guts to pull the trigger.

Keep in mind, the colder the weather, the shorter the battery life.

Polar Tec

Then pick a good insulated Jacket and bibb combo.

Pac boots with wool socks and you are good to go !
