go to Bass, Cabelas, walmart, dicks, or some place with a camping section and you can get magnesium starter for around 7 bucks. Burns hot and can even help light damp material. Use is 1,000 times compared to a small container of waterproof matches.
Always have some form of rope or string. 550 paracord is awesome stuff to carry and its light.
