RE: Honda Foreman Vs Rancher
correct me if im wrong but the foreman is all time 4x4 an the new rancher is in an out of 4x4 ..... from driving an all time 4x4 bike i absoutely hate it... after driving a bike thats in 2x4.... that would be the BIGGEST selling point to me... i like to be able to turn sharp an weave through the woods.. an still have 4x4 if needed

yes the new TRX420 is selectable 4x4. its located on the left hand side. I'd be all over the Rancher. Last hunting season here i counted 27 atvs one day and all but about 3 or 4 where Ranchers. They are in my honest opinion the best ATV ever made by anyone for a utility purpose. My brother in law has an 06 4x4 w/ 25" 589s. I was riding it and the other4 wheeler's clutch went out. I hadmy 210lbs on the Rancher driving, my wife, 115lbs, his wife, 275ish lbs, w/ a sport quad in tow with him setting on it just toolin' along in 5th gear.

Can't go wrong with either. I have an '06 Rancher 4x4 that is perfect for deer hunting in Alabama. The extra power of the Foreman would be great if I were a mud rider but for running around my lease the Rancher is more than capable.

Honda makes a great bike and they are tough for sure. The only reason why I didn't get one is they all have such low ground clearance and most models don't have fuel injection. I live in the north and getting through deep snow is an issue especially due to the fact that my primary use is for ice fishing. The EFI makes for easy starting too. Most of the other brands are now offering EFI and have much higher ground clearance which makes them better suited for busting through the drifts.

I have the Honda 350 ES in 2 wheel drive and I love it. With a set of tire chains on the back I have had no problem gowing through the snow. For as far as getting stuck in the mud I only recall having that issue once. The front end went down almost to the handle bars, and i know the 4 wheel drive would not have helped me out much then. But, I was pulled back out by a 350 Polaris 4x4, LOL. Even then it gave the Polaris a very hard time and that was on solid ground.

I bought a 07 Suzuki 450 King Quad with 2wd/4wd a locking diff, IRS and EFI for less than 6K. It has about 11" of clearance and with 2 link V bar chains on the rear I was able to get through everything the winter had to offer this past year.

I still have my 2002 Honda Rancher and love it. I use it all the time and its never given me any problems. I don't have to go thru snow or anything like that and its only 2WD. But its great for doing my ranch chores and making a quick run around the ranch to check things out. It handles creekbeds OK but I can see where a 4x4 would make things a little easier but not necessarily needed for what I do.
