Default Scope & Ammo

I recently bought a Remmington 700 ADL 30-06. I hunt Whitetale Deer, what ammo would you recommend. I heard that 150 grain would be plenty but what type of ammo, there is so many to chose from. Also I need a scope, maybe a 3x9x40. How much should I spend on a scope.
Someone told me that you can get a good 3x9x40 for around $100. Is this true.

Thanks

I only have 5 weapons that wear scopes. 1 burris fullfield, 3 leupold vari-x-2 and 1 vari-x 3. Only reason I purchased the burris was because of the eye relief that I needed on my 870 remington. For some reason burris scopes are not as critical with eye relief as my leupolds. I can say one thing I notice the difference between all 3 types of scopes. I would suggest you look into the VX-2 leupold 3-9x40. You are going to pay between 275.00-300.00 but its well worth the money. I have had several cheap scopes t/o my life and you get what you pay for. i would also like to add that I had a 3-9x36 swarovski-american series bought in 95. it cost around $550.00 and i did not think it was that great for the price so I sent it back to the manufacturer. I do own a pair of swarovski SLC 8x30 that I bought 10-11 years ago for around 500.00 and I think they are fantastic. I don't think I would buy one now as they go for around 900-950. my friend has a pair of nikon(beleive they are monarchs) and for the price I think they are really good.spend as much as you can for your optics. I shoot all remington ammo thru my 3rifles. 22 cal. and two 30-06's. I use 165 grain corelokt express as they are pretty cheap. In my 870 I go with the lightfield 2 3/4 slugs. I shoot powerbelts in my T/C omega but will try others next spring since the PB shoot allright till 100 yards then they open up a lot.Good luck in your search for your scope.

You might look at fix power scopes 4X or 6X. You'll pay much more in a varible to get a scope as bright as a fix.

I would recommend buying several boxes of different brand and type ammo. Before I started reloading, I would try one box of every factory offering I could get my hands on. Then I would shoot 4 5-shot groups from each rifle. My guns always liked some brands better than others, and I would stick with the combinations that worked best.

Also I need a scope, maybe a 3x9x40. How much should I spend on a scope.

I haven't ever had a scope in the $100 or less price range that I liked. My recommendation would be to get a Nikon Buckmaster in that size. This is about the cheapest scope I have found that still performs at an acceptable level. It is durable, it retains its zero well, and it has decent low-light performance. When hunting whitetails, especially in southern states where the temperature runs a little higher, light transmission is critical. The cheaper glass found in cheaper scopes will lose a lot of light as it enters the objective and passes through the scope. When the deer are staying in cover until right at the end of legal shooting hours, a good scope is worth its weight in gold and a gun with cheap scope might as well be flower pot for decoration.
