RE: climbers
i believe it's an early viper. i know someone who has a stand like this and likes it. the only difference i can see between my x4 and that stand is that mine has a foot rest and rapid climb stirrups. as long as its in as good of condition as the seller says it should be a pretty good stand. it would be even better if you could get it for that price

Another vote for the Summit Viper. Trust me, you can't go wrong with it. It is that nice of a stand!! Limited budget? That's fine... No biggie... 99.9% of the sporting goods stores and bow shops or stuff have layaway plans. The Summit Viper X4 (last year) was $239 on sale.
Also, another plug for the Summit Viper... It is one of the most lightest, quietest, go anywhere type of climber around. Best part is, it is REAL COMFORTABLE. [8D] I have actually nodded off in the real early mornings, 22' up in a tree! Now, that is comfortable!

I noticed he said it had "some rust".
Summit made a few stands years ago that were steel instead of aluminum. I'd ask him which it is. I've had my aluminum a long time and it's never "rusted".
The value difference is significant.
If it's just a little bit of peeling paint or oxidized aluminum that is no big deal at all.

I have said this before and I will say it again, your treestand is not the place to save money. Spend a few extra dollars and get a good quality product, you won't regret it when you are 25 feet up a tree. Later model treestands have improved over earlier modelsin features, ease of use, comfort and safety. Summit is a good manufacturer, and I use a Viper as well, but any of the other good company's stands will be better now than even a 2 or 3 year old stand, in my opinion. Also invest in a quality safety harness, if your stand doesn't come with one, and use it every minute you are climbing and in your stand. It can save your life.

The Summit Viper you have a link to is definately a steel model. I had one just like it. It is a great stand butheavy. The newer aluminum models are much lighter and pack better. I do not know much about the Brutus stands but forabout the same you could get the Summit Bushmaster from Cabelas:

IMO this would be a better stand.
