Hunted a friends small acreage track near Rocksprngs Texas this week.
My buddy took an axis doe along with this beautiful axis buck. He was 30" long and was around 225 to 240lbs.
Killed with a .243 went 5yds and piled up, whats funny is he couldnt get it done with his 300 wsm. Two weeks ago he took a hog with it and we never found it, then this week he shot the doe and we looked and looked for it, my other friend found it still alive, gut shot and finished it off. We ragged and ragged him about the mag. He takes the .243 out and puts a perfect shot on the big axis and gets it done. Just goes to show you, doesnt matter what caliber it is if its not placed correctly your not going to find your animal.
I also got lucky, I took my first pig with a bow, no camo, no scent cover, smoking cigs, I placed a chair behind a small cedar tree near the feeder and just sat quiet, this guy comes in and I put an arrow right in the armpit, he went about 80yds into the thickest stuff imaginable, we followed a decent blood trail right to him where he was expired.
This is on a small tract and are free ranging animals.

It makes you wonder how we ever killed anything years ago when typical hunting clothes consisted of jeans and a red plaid wool jacket. The best camo ever invented was just being still, if you don't move they usually don't see you.
