I don't particularly like the idea of using dogs for hogs I also completely respect people who do it. Some day I think I will try it to be able to actually have a real opinion. As long as your respectful to the game you hunt more power to you.

I used to hate the hog/dog hunts...depised is a better word....then I went on one and I saw the way it's done and I have been doing every year since....most of the hunters love their dogs, they're right behind them, ready to asst. , to protect....the dogs absolutely love it...yeah it may be hell on the hog until the hunter gets there which is usually right after the dogs get there, but it's the most effective way to reduce the hog population and that should be a concern of every hunter....it's the best management tool we have. It's also the hardest/most physical hunting in my book....it will kick your butt...anyone that can do it gets props from me....

Cool! I was here in 1999 also. It was just my time to rotate back over here. I really like it though.

Being from the midwest I travel to Tx & Ok to Bowhunt Hogs.
I've done several different types-stands with & without feeders & 1 hound/hog.
The hound Bowhunt was by far the most exciting hunt I have ever been on in my life-we were charged 6 different times-the hounds actually had several hogs at one time fighting them b/4 one cut out of the HOG PACK & it was a battle in favor of the hogs at that time. I've killed Elk, Bears, Caribou, Buffalo, Whitetail & more with a Bow. Wild hogs are the meanest & toughest of anything I have encountered on a Bowhunt.
This is a closeup of that hog nearly 4 hours after the Dogs cut him out of the bunch. I was completly exausted..
I hope to do this again this year. Nothing cruel that I can see.

Mother Nature isn't exactly a pacifist. As we used to say when we were kids, "Life is hard in the jungle!" Whatever the hogs might feel about being hunted with dogs is probably balanced out by the fact that the hogs eat just about any small animal they can get their lips on. Rabbits, fawns, birds, you name it and the hogs will eat it if they can. I'm not saying the hogs deserve what they get, and I'm not making any claims regarding justice in the wild. I am saying that simply existing in nature can be pretty tough, and if the big hogs aren't being hunted by dogs, the coyotes and wolves are getting all of the smaller ones that they can. It's a tough life.

We as humans just happen to be pretty close to the top of the food chain. Me, I like it that way.

Having said all that, I've never hunted with dogs. I take a more mellow approach to hunting. I like walking quietly in the woods, observing the surroundings, hopefully spotting a hog and stalking it until I can get a good shot. That's what I enjoy, but I have nothing at all against folks who like things to be more exciting.

i don't have a problem with hog doggers who control their dogs and prevent them from mangling the hog. i have killed several wild hogs that had been badly mangled by dogs but got away. One hog dogger guy in this area has a really bad reputation. He asks to hunt on a couple of our places and i always give him a very firm no.

I have done it with dogs, and I didn't like it. I espcially didn't like doing it with pit bulls. I won't condemn those who do. But I can say I won't do it again. Just not my type of hunting and left a bad feeling about it.

I mean if I was hunting for substance alone, thats a different story.

I like my hunting to be peaceful. You see an animal, you take the shot, the animal goes and dies. All peaceful

With a few exceptions (the occasional baby or small sow) the dogs don't have the opportunity to maul the hogs. I've killed hundreds and only seen it twice. Often, like deer, one hog is mangled by a more dominant hog. Further, I have found dogs that are TOO aggressive generally don't survive long, a point that's normally not wasted on the dog.
