Wow, you guys are really going at it, this is great! I'm just wondering which of you will start saying really smart stuff like 'my hawg's bigger than your hawg' and 'my wife's <insert appendages here> are bigger than yours!'

Are you KIDDING ME???

Pighunter, as a Fawn (like myself) on this forum, though entitled to post you ought to maybe take a breather and a lesson from a few of the folks who've been posting to message boards/forums since they became popular in the past decade. (Mayber you're new to the web?) I realize that you were probably out killing huge pigs for free on your <insert relative/boss/best friend/neighbor/unknowning neighbor's> property/ranch/backyard down in Texas, but sometime after your 35th (or was it 45th?) year killing hundreds of pigs, the rest of us started doing this whole 'online communication' thing. With that comes some responsibility to treat one another with respect.

Don't know how they do it in Texas, but didn't they treat y'all about name calling and such in kindergarten?

With 98% of the land mass in the state of Texas privately owned, you must know some folks if you can go anywhere and kill pigs at will. I envy you. I live in California and there is a LOT of land available for public access, a fair amount of it for hunting, and a bunch of private land we can shoot too. I have access to private ranches for hogs (not at my leisure, mind you), hunt refuges for waterfowl, and BLM & private land for quail & dove. But having paid to hunt Axis in TX (which magically don't roam the streets of Los Angeles begging to be shot), am I all of a sudden a 'can hunter'? I'm willing to bet that if you had to suffer through a single deer season in California you'd be begging for your Texas hunting rights again. Try actually 'hunting' for wild game instead of bragging about your hog slaughtering exploits.

The 'my way is the right way, and your way stinks' mentality sounds just like the posts on the Bird Dog forum I was reading earlier: when did your opinion become the rule of our hunting tradition? Who says a pointer is better than a pointing lab? Who says Catholics are better than Muslims? See the point? You don't want to hunt behind a fence, no problem. You want to spend $10K-20K on a trip to Iran to hunt their rams, no problem. Heck, you want to hunt over a food plot from a tree stand in West Texas (something I think is a JOKE), you go boy! But when .358 Win coughs up some hard earned dough, makes a clean kill, and puts some meat in the freezer, that's aproblem?COME ON!

What does age have to do with being a jerk!!! Hell .358 call me I'll come hunt there with you. I cant stand people who judge someone else for something that is so trevial. Who cares about the fence ,its his money
Enough about that . I really like the .358 it hits hard and makes clean ethical kills. Good job and good luck.

Roger that, Dan. let's talk about hunting.l was born and raised around fairbanks, AK and now live in Florida. I've seen all kinds of hunting, and if someone wants to spend his own money. Have at it. I've never had to do it, but not all folks are as lucky as our Texan friend ormyself for that matter. I've had to sit out entire seasons because of where I was stationed at the time, and I gotta tell ya, I probably would have jumped at a chance to hunt someting. Anything.
Let's all try to remember that we all love the same thing. Hunting. The kill. The reward. The love of it.
Pighunter, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Yours is as valid as 358winman's, but if he doesn't agree, he just doesn't agree. No amount of name calling or belittling will change that. The same should be said to you 358. You've bothgot yer blood up about this.C'mon fellas. Put the rocks down and let's get back to hunting.

Smoke, I did tell him in my first post, that if that's his only way......Go for it! Many people don't like the method I have used for 55yrs, but that's my business!

I don't hold any bad feelings towards him. If he's happy, hey that's his business!

I KNOW YOU ARE BUT WHAT AM I!?!

After 55 years of killing pigs with reckless abandon, I would think at the ripe old age of 59 ('cause I'm sure you were killin' 'em at the age of 4), you'd see the forest for the trees pighunter.

.358, I'll happily host you for some Valley Quail, dove, Gambel's Quail, etc here in California. Drop me a note if you plan to get out here and I'll be your guide!

Gentlemen,

I am overwhelmed by your support and I appreciate all the comments.
Like California, NJ is very locked up with private holdings and the stateland or BLM's you call them in the west are crowded. I've had buckshot whistle over my head a few times during deer season and do not wish to avail myself to being shot by someone who's not paying attention!
I along with some friends, welease private land to deer and turkey hunt in NJ.
Any other game must be sought after in another state and that requires funding! Either way, you pay when you live in the east!
Having developed such a passion for shooting and hunting has led me to read and learn about other states and trying them. I fell in love with Montana and have gone there several times. Mulies. whitetails and pronghorn have been addicting! Unfortunately, I don't eat paper and crap money!!! So, I save up and get to book a trip every couple of years.
I feel that besides giving me pleasure, that trip helps pay for the economy in that state. It all works out one way or another. You have to pay to hunt. Even a resident has to buy a license and tag, gas and motels, diners to eat inetc... We all pay.
But I would enjoy hunting with you guys if the opportunity ever presents itself. Quail in CA. sounds like a trip! Wild quail, over a good bird dog has to be a great hunt. We only have state stocked quail in NJ and they're only stocked in two WMA's. You have to buy a pheasant/quail stamp for $40.00 to hunt these birds in NJ!!!
I wish all of you a wonderful year and hunting season. If I ever figure out how to shrink my file size, I'll post the hog and ram pics.
Warmest regards,
358WINman
