is my .22 enough?

RE: is my .22 enough?
I've never hunted wild hogs of which I have made that factclear. I have shot my share of domestic hogs. We use a .22 caliber and all to often I have seen them .22's bounce, glance off, and we are talking a nice calm hogs when they were shot. I am not sure if I would go after a 400 pounder with a .22 caliber. I think I would want something larger.
One of the other people that used to butcher with me, he favorite way was to wack them between the eyes with a 3lb hammer and then cut their throat. I would not advise that on a wild one... Good luck in your hog hunts and do keep us posted. I find this sport so interesting.

RE: is my .22 enough?
IM OFF THE .22!! Well this morning our neighbor came over and asked me to come help him fix his fence, so I agreed and being the most paranoid person ever i grabbed my knife and since i was in a hurry grabbed my Lyman .54 cal muzzleloader pistol and a home-made cartridge loaded and jumped on the back of the tractor and we headed off. well about 10 min. after we got in the woods my neighbor whispered to me to be still, grabbed his .30-06 and I turned around to see him shoot a 150 lb boar right behind the shoulder blades, well it dropped only to jump up and run about 30 yards into a briar patch, when we walked toward it he WALKED out like nothing had happened so aimed at his head and a lot of smoke later he was laying there finaly dead, So if a .30-06 in the heart area won't drop 'em the .22 staying up untill squirrel season

I would shoot them with my 10-22...if I could be in a tree stand lol. I can hit a soda can every time at 50 yards in rapid fire fashion. I would think that ten 22s in the face would have to do something lol.

Ok, you're odd. Sorry, but you asked for it! Seriously, I wish we had wild hogs to hunt over here on the west end of Tennessee.

Iwould and have shot hogs in the head with .22magwhen huntingwith dogs. Very few times have I ever hunted hogs without dogs and have used Sabot slugs, because
I was hunting deer at the time.

a friend of mynes little brother took a 70lbr with his 22lr. I must say the little pain in our butts can shoot. He hit just above the shoulders in the back bone paralizing the hog from the head back. and he told us he was gonna shoot it there before he shot. Was a well placed shot. I thought was a 22mag at the time then i actually LOOKED at the gun and saw 22lr bullets in it. i wouldnt recommend for hogs 22mag+ would be preffered.

IMHO a .22LR is wayyyyyyy too small of a caliber for hogs. Not that even the biggest hog can't be killed with a .22, buy your margin for error is so small. Miss my just a little bit and you have one severely pissed off hog on your hands.
On my last trip, we had a couple of guys hit them with a .22-250 and not put them down.
I would stick to a larger caliber gun with a little more muscle behind it.
