New 308.
I was over at Scheels all sports today and noticed that they had one 700 Classic for 2005 left in stock. It was the 308 for this year but they have a 24 inch barrel. This one had nice wood on it so I picked it up. I put a new 4x12x40 Swift Premier scope on it. Should make an excellent big game rifle this fall. I will put a synthetic stock on it and save the wood stock so I don't ding it up. I hate wood stocks for hunting use because I always manage a ding or two per season. I have bought several Classics over the years and just stick the cheap Ram Line stocks on for hunting use. They have held up well and shot real well with the Ram Lines.
I have several Swift scopes and have had real good performance from them. For a lower dollar scope they have worked well. I wanted a new Aetec but they didn't have any in yet.
They are selling out the remaining 700 ADL rifles with the synthetic stocks for 327.00 I put one of those away for later. They were down to 243, 270 and 30-06. Good price though.

How about a pic or two? Love to see good wood.
Dings, scratches, they're all just "character" marks , and often reminders of a great
hunt. I'll stick to my wood - dings & all.

I will have to get my kids to do the pictures. I don't have the stuff to send pictures. They have everything for computers. The only reason I have this one is that they out grew it. I get all the old computer and stereo stuff as they move up.
About five and a half years ago I had to have major surgery and was to be laid up for quite a while. They brought me up a computer and desk and stereo and hooked it all together for me. Then they put a bunch of my music on the hard drive so I could just set here with the remote and entertain myself. I would have gone nuts without it.
I have synthetic stocks on every rifle I own except a few of the NEF rifles. I love them. They are worry free. I was a carpenter most of my life so I have seen enough wood. I have all the wood stocks put away safe and sound. If I trade a gun, I keep the synthetic stocks and trade them in with the wood looking brand new. Makes for good resale.

Jame B, supposedly this is the last year they will be offering the 700 Classic. It makes 25 years they’ve been making this model in different caliber's and this is the last one. You just might have a keeper, so changing stock might be a very good idea. You can read some more on this rifle on Remingtons web page. http://www.remington.com/firearms/ce...700classic.htm
Sound like you have some real good kids who care about there parents. You must have done something right. Good luck with your new rifle.

Thanks! They are pretty good kids. I hate to see them quit the Classic I didn't get them all but I got several during their run. My wife's 250 Savage is a Gem. As is she.

There are not many like her I gotta admit that. I have been on a roll lately but now I am done for this year. Except for picking up a couple layaways and one more NEF barrel in 30-30. I am waiting for one to get back from having a 357 Mag barrel installed. Then the 280 goes in for a 30-30 barrel. Then there is next year God Willing. It wasn't an easy ride but I am retired and our house and land is paid for. She still has about five years to go until retirement.

JamesB,
Just joking around. I'd be in the doghouse for a month if I bought three in a week. I have to do the old buy one , sell one routine. Wonder how i'll hide the custom I'm having built right now.
