RE: Need help on a shotgun for deer.
I have got several slugguns. I have a browning Gold stalker with cantilever barrel, 870 express, and 1187.
I wish I never got the gold stalker. I have well over 1000 dollars in it. I mean hear me out. The gold stalker is very accurate, great looking, and all. But where I hunt, you don't want to take things that are too nice. Its in the swamps of MD. The water is salt. But you don't need (I sure don't) need to use an auto on deer. I should have just got the gold in standard smooth barrel for upland, and ducks, and got a cantilever barrel for my 870. The gold is heavier than the 870.
I like 870's for thier ruggedness. I have a few. I always go with wood. Plastic anything on guns or pumps sounds like a bongo going thru the woods. If I drop it in the briny water, Oh well. But I spend more time worrying about that Gold than anything when walking 1.5 Miles thru the swamp.

I have heard that H&R make an accurate single shot slug gun. I saw one at Dick's Sporting Goods. It has a real thick barrel, guy said the barrel was a 10 guage barrel drilled to 12guage. It cam with a scope for about 250$. Also comes in 20 guage. I have frieds saw that it was the most accurate slug gun they have used. You will need a sling because it weighs a ton.
