Custom Barrels
I am in the process of looking for a barrel to build a .450 Marlin bolt action. Any Pros/Cons of one manufacture over another ? Any insight is greatly appreciated. Just looking to build something different.

RE: Custom Barrels
I have 700 Remingtons barreled in Shilen Matchgrade and Douglas XX... While both barrels arrived in fine condition and perform well, the knowledge and customer service i receive when speaking with Shilen is far ahead of Douglas. I don't have any personal experience with Hart, Lilja or Shaw, etc... the Shilen barrel, in a nearly finished form will run you nearly $100 more than a Douglas....

For good quality and spending more on the barrel for they can get out of hand, price wise so, go for a Douglas XX. they are priced right for the adverage guy and have worked good for many years and they still are what i use, unless someone asks for a speciality barrel. vangunsmith

Probably the finest custom barrels made are made by Morrison Precision Ph. 520-378-6207. Good luck.

I met a guy at the range who had a rifle built by Morrison Precision; it was a .30-378 Wby. Mag. built on a Ruger #1 action with a 30" medium heavy barrel that shot .25" three shot groups at 100 yds. Good luck.

RE: Custom Barrels
I have two shilens, both are super accurate. one douglas haven't been able to dial in quite as tight as the shilens, but it will shoot ANYTHING from 150gr -225gr and still do it better than a factory barrel. I also have a factory barrel that Chestensen arms turned down and did a carbon wrap on, it really brings the point of balance back closer to the shooter and the barrel doesnt heat up. No complaints on any of them.
