Normally I would say the 25-06. However if you are going to keep your 243 then it would make sense to go with the 270 to seperate your optiond a little more. I condiser the 25-06 to be far superior to the 243 which I consider a good varmit rifle but not really a deer rifle. The 270 though would be a good choice if you are keeping your 243 for the smaller stuff.
My thoughts exactly, I cant see owning a 243 and a 25-06, but If I had none I would choose the 25-06.

If your going to be traveling alot for pronghorns you should consider the .25 WSSM as it chambered in super short actions..saves you an inch in total length and a 1/4 pound from a even a short action....

The 264 Mag is a very high velocity, flat shooting round. When the 7mm Rem Mag was introduced the 264's popularity lost ground. It's extremely hard on barrels according to a old Speer manual.I'm not sure who even chambers this round anymore.Winchester probably does. I know Ruger made a limited run of them in their M-77's. No I wouldn't recommend one.Not when the 7mm RM's are everywhere.

Now going back to the original question.Since keeping a 243 .Of the two calbers mentioned my choice would be the 270 Win.I've laid many a deer low with a 270. It's made a believer out of me.Don't rule out a 30-06. They are very versatile . From varmints to big game.
