How much to pay for Rem. 7400...
A friend of mine has a remington model 7400 (wood, blue) in good condition...rings no scope....what do you think a good price would be? Does anyone know how much they weigh....he says it's hevier than the 7.5lbs it's listed at. The gun's probably 5 years old. Thanks.

RE: How much to pay for Rem. 7400...
I have one and have killed I don't know how many deer. I have had it since 1985 or so in a 270. It shoots well and never had jammed. It was a challenge working up a new load for it due to not only do you have to worry about accuracy but now cycling correctly. I found slower powders did real well. I think it gets a bad rap for the most part. I have a feeling most of it is hear say.
A bar is a much better weapon but you are going to pay twice as much for it.
250 to 300 would be a nice price depending on the condition.

Killed probably 10 deer with a 742 '06. It did jam once..but I can tell ya that was strictly due to needing cleaned. After they are thoroughly cleaned I never had another problem. A gun is like anything else..they wont last forever without a little maintenance and if ya dont wanna keep it pretty clean you may be better off going with something else. I have heard a lot of crap about the Remington Auto loaders..but I had ZERO probs with a clean gun! Hunted from '87 to 94 with one and bought another a couple of years back and it has proven trouble free as well.
You arent gonna get 1 inch groups out of them but both of mine shot 2-3 inch groups at 100 yards which is perfectly acceptable for normal hunting ranges.

VOZ Save your money.I see some here are happy with their 742's and 7400's.They didn't get the nicknames Jam-Master or Jam-o-matic for nothing.I had two 742's. Both are gone and no more will ever come home with me.If you insist on a semi auto go with a Browning BAR.Yeah more expensive but allot better rifle.I'm not trying to insult people's guns but you could do allot better then a Rem.7400 or older 742.
