Some points have been made here Lima Charlie. Question any Hands on with Dan Wesson? Local dealer has a nice looking one at around $642.

I don't know which Dan Wesson you're talking about, but I work with a guy that bought a "Point Man" and it seems to be a decent pistol, but it don't compare to a Kimber that costs about the same.

I agree with no mercy about the NEW colts...The Old colts are historic items and are wonderfully manufactured...
If you are looking at "cheap" 1911's you might look at Rock Island Armory... I have heard gun things about them.
Dan Wesson makes fine 1911, but if you go to the 1911 forum you will see that they did a review on one and the pistol basically fell apart. But I don't think they are that bad.
Like you see Kimber seems to be the best 1911 out their that isn't custome (Rock River Arms, Les Baer, Ed Brown, Wilson, etc.). I think Springfields are a very close second. I just don't think the other brands match up.
