RE: which has more recoil
I agree with Speyrjb....i have shot the remington 11-87 for deer for 5 years--3" 00 buck and never once have i felt the kick whiel shooting at a deer...at the range patterning the gun its different but i always felt the rifle was a much sharper kick...i recently swithced to a wicnhester supreme over/ under 12 ga. and the kick is felt more than the semi because the escaping gas has no where to go where in a semi its pushing the action...

RE: which has more recoil
I hunt with an Encore and have a 308 rifle barrel and a 12ga turkey barrel for it. I shoot 150gr pills out of the 308 and Federal 3-inch 2oz turkey loads out of the turkey barrel. The weight of each setup should be very close and the 308 is a ***** cat compared to the 12ga. I don't pay any attention to the recoil of the 12ga in the field, but patterning it is a tad rough!!!

didn't ya'll pay attention in science class?... Newton's Law: every action has an opposite and equal reaction... of course shooting a heavy load in a shotgun is going to feel more recoil than a light bullet out of a rifle, even with the rifle shooting faster... atleast till you get into the big bores and the magnums...

RE: which has more recoil
Has anyone ever noticed that a rifle seems to have more of a hard kick when compared to the "push" of a shotgun? Might just be my imagination. I shot 3 1/2" 12ga mags, 458 win mags, 338 win mags. Just what it feels like to me.
