Leupold VXII Scopes
Guys, since Leupold brought out thier VXII scopes, I have been kinda confused on why a Vari-X III is so much better than VXII. The VXII has the same multicoat 4 coating and the same click adjustments. Bass Pro was having this big hoo ra ra, with all these vendors having reps on site. So I cornered the Leupold rep and he said the VXII has better characteristics than the old VariX II. But the VariX III has the multicoating on inside lenses also which gives something like 94% transparancy compared to the VXII with the coating on only two of the lenses for a 88%. Wow, you pay alot for that extra light gathering capability. Just if anyone else was wondering. Also got to talk a bit with Steve Puppe from Knight rifles. Saw a bunch of hunting videos with him in them before. Pretty down to earth guy with a cool job I must say. Said he still has to pay for the taxidermy work even though the sponsors pay for all these cool hunts. I don't feel sorry for him.

There is some difference between the 2. A comparable scope in a Vari-xIII is still lighter and shorter than a VXII. Multi-coat on the VXII is identical to what is on the VXII. Proper coating costs additional money. The old VarixII was overpriced.

The VXII should cost more than the VariX II. I believe its twice the scope. As optics is what I do( but in the telcom industry), this coating they refer to is dog cheap to do, but the machinery to do it cost several million. What they are doing is matching the index of refaction with air so the reflective loss is lowest. Or trying too. I just can't believe they charge that much extra to do both sides and the concave lenses inside. I mean with the volumn they put out, they have already paid for the machinery. So the rest is gravy.
I laugh when I saw people out there buying up all those VariX II's 10s at a time thinking they would make money on them. I see the same guys at the range trying to sell them telling me they are better than the VXII's when they don't know a thing about Multicoat-4. Needless to say, one loudmouth I know, can't get rid of the ones he bought.

The VX-2has a 3 piece tube and 82% light transmission the Vari x-III has a one piece tube and 93%light transmission. Thats why the price is different. I contacted Leupold and what i am telling you he told me except for the Nikon. Leupold are good scope but if you are going to spend 269.99 move up to a Nikon Monarch 3-9x40 for 299.99

I pressed enter when i wasn't done. The Monarch has 95% light transmission and is a better scope than a VX-2. The Vari-x II had the same light transmission and a one piece tube for 199.99. New Name Big PRICE!!
