Found a 5mm.....
Today I came across a 5mm Remington the 592 model. It had a cheap little scope on it but it was only $125. Is that a reasonable price for this gun? I would like to keep it as a collectors item, but I gotta find some shells to try it out. Do any of you think it would be worth a lot of money later in life. The more I read about it, the more interested I am in it. Thanks

RE: Found a 5mm.....
I have had a couple. They are OK at best. The guns are not well made, and the ejectors will eventually go bad.
I sold one for $125 that was in good shape, mounts included. (Clip-fed) The other I sold to 3DNWV on this forum that had ejector problems and was in OK shape for $50. (Tubular magazine fed)
With the 17HMR and .204 gaining popularity, I don't believe that they will ever be overly valuable...but who knows?
Buy the conversion kit....make them centerfire.....reload the shells....and kill some varmints!
The shells run about $.50 to $.75 apiece. That's a little pricey for what you are getting. They are flat and fast, though!

RE: Found a 5mm.....
My suggestion is if you find ammo for it buy a bunch of it.Ammo is very scare and quite expensive. It's hard to say how much the guns value will increase. In a couple year old Gun Traders Guide it shows it at 155.00.I personally don't think it will ever be much of a collectors piece. The main thing is if you like it and are happy with it.A couple years ago there was a company doing a conversion on these rimfires.Converting to a Center fired. They had all the components & dies. I couldn't tell you who it was doing the conversion. I do remember they were extremely proud of the conversion and the price of the components.I'm sure someone will remember who it was doing it and point you in the right direction.
