Default 30-06 Factory Loads

I have recently purchased a Remington 700 bdl ss in 30-06 and am wondering if anyone else has this same model and what factory rounds are best suited for whitetail and make for a decent group. I have been shooting the winchester superX 165g soft point and the groupings are ok but not near as good as the groupings i shoot with my .308 with factory ammo.

Although I have hunted exclusively with my handloads for the past 45 years, last year just for fun I purchased a box of standard Remington 150 grain Core Lokts ($9.99). In my 700BDL 30-06, two 100 yd. 3 shot groups were about 1 inch.
I hunted with them in Va. last season, and shot 3 bucks--45 yds, 122 yds, and 186 yds. Not one of them moved out of his tracks. In each case, bullet action was just about perfect.
Many people buy into the marketing hype of premium this and premium that, but millions of deer have been dispatched quite handily with standard, run of the mill, factory loads.

I have this same rifle, and I tested several different factory loads with it. By far the best groups in my rifle using factory loads came from Remington's 165 grain CoreLokts. These grouped right around an inch and a quarter at 100 yards, some better, a very few slightly worse. I was pretty amazed at this level of accuracy from an out-of-box rifle and factory loads.

None of the Winchester loadings that I tried grouped that well at all, usually around 2" to 3". These were in 150 and 165 grain loadings. The Remington 150s and Remington 180s were better than the Winchesters but not as good as the 165s.

I now use Remington 165 brain bullets in my handloads for this rifle and the groups are usuall an inch or better. I will be trying these out on hogs in a couple of months.

Best thing for you to do ifg you don't handload is to buy different brands in different bullt weights and see which combo your particular rifle likes best.

ANY of these loads would bring your deer down just fine.

hate to admit it but the best shooting round ive tried in the mauser was a 165gr psp corelokt......wont shot anyhting but targets adn groundhogs n such with them..no big game.....premium ammo for me......i spend all year getting ready for deer season....why be cheap when it comes to ammo....i want to know my bullet will do its job if i do mine....ever deer i shot left giant blood trails or fell right over when hit with the 3006.....except the ones i hit with the corelokts!!!!!! not even a 30yds blood trail.....i believe what i believe......100000000s of people use them and are fine.....dotn know why but i think mine EXPLODED on impact......ive never ever had a bullet fail to exit...i hunt close quarters.....30 yds is a normal shot.....broadside i shouldnt have to worry about my bullet not coming out....i want something tougher...but they did group the best out of what i tried...shooting winchester supreme ballistic tips this year i do believe.....lgood luck....like i said 32089403248902384 people here alone will tell you corelokts are the best deer bullet ever made....i disaggree....but thats me.....

My best advice is to try different loads in your rifle. What groups good in the same rifle as yours may not group worth a dam in yours.

Best Wishes
