Default Temperamental Rifles

Who has owned one particular brand of rifle that is always temperamental and needs work to get it to shoot accurately or consistently then other brands? I have one particular brand in mind but want to hear from others on this.

Well, at the risk of being tarred and feathered, I have never had luck with Browning rifles. Have owned six high powered rifles by Browning, over the years and sold every one of them after one season of working to get their problems ironed out. No particular problems common to all. Maybe just bad luck and no reason to draw a scientific conclusion.

JD338..This is sort of feedback to find out what rifle seems to need the most mods in order to shoot well. I have at least 5 guns that I plan on buying in the next year or so.

I usually have to do some bedding work and always trigger in the Winchesters ,But after that they sorta come into their own.

I have Marlins,Brownings, Winchesters, Remingtons, and a Mauser, all will shoot sub MOA with the right ammo. The only thing I have done is set the triggers on my Rem and Win to 3 Lbs. Finding the right bullet /load combo is the key. This is assuming that the optics are properly installed and stable and the bore/chamber are in good condition and the shooter is up to the task. Factory ammo can vary quite a bit. I bought a Marlin 30-30 for my son to start deer hunting with. I couldn't wait to shoot it , so I bought 2 boxes of Rem ammo. The best I could do was 4"-5"at 100. Needless to say I was dissapointed. I made some reloads using Rem brass, WW primers , IMR powder and Rem coreloks. That shrunk the groups to 1- 1/8 " with 200 fps higher velocity than factory. He took his first deer on the opener. My Win m-70 .300 WM. also likes Rem Coreloks. They shoot 0.5 " groups at 100 from the bench, using the same load but changing the bullet to Nosler Partitions the groups opened to 2". My buddy has aTikka .300 WM and it will shoot the Partitions to sub MOA. You just have to try different load/ bullet combos until you find a good one for your gun. IMHO

I've never owned one myself, but I've seen enough people have accuracy problems with Ruger No 1's to convince me that I don't need one of these rifles.

I have only had problems with one brand of rifle that has been tempermental. It is Weatherby. I am talking about the Mark V's in the Weatherby calibers.....the guns with free-bore.

I will never own another one of those. I have had the Vanguards that shoot standard calibers....and don't have freebore....they are fine.

My complaint is with the Mark V's. But hey, it's not that bad..you can hit a bushel basket with most Mark V's I've seen.

Winchesters and remingtons has always needed some sort of bedding work for me. And the triggers have gotten consistently heavy in the past decade. But weatherby's have consistently been trouble for me. They will get the required sub2MOA performance but I always wanted more.
