trouble!!!! with a savage 99
well i have had a 99 300 savage for about 2 years and i went to shoot it today for the first time in about 14 months. there is a counter on the side telling you how many shells are in the gun. i stuck 3 in and i noticed the counter was inbetween the 2 and 3. so i ejected the shell in the chamber and the ones in the mag. wouldn't feed into the chamber. the rotating thing that holds the shell isn't pushing up hard enough to get the shells high enough for the action to grab them.[:'(]
can i fix it so i get more "spring" so the shell will chamber or do i have to bring it to a gunsmith???

The Savage 99 has a rotary magazine that has to be wound up with tension , otherwise it wont feed the next round . It would have to be pretty dirty not to feed ,but that and the need for more tension on the magazine spring is probably your problem. .

Its been a long time since I have worked on one but I do remember you have to disassemble the action . Then you rotate the feed mechanism to provide tension and reassemble the gun . Its not that hard to do ,the first time I did it was for a friend that cleaned his model 99 just before opening day and it wouldn't feed when he put it back together . Good Luck
