17 HM2 Vs 22 Long Rifle
I Have 2 Rifles In 22 Long Rifle .
And I wonder How Thw New 17 HM2 Compares.
Since The 17 HM2 Is A Necked Down 22 Long Rifle And Acording To What I Have Read,
It Is Good Up To 200 Yards.
Has Any One Got It Yet And Shot It ?
And How Does It Compare??????
Thank You Very Much !!!!

There really is no comparison between the 22 lr and the 17 hmr. The 17 HMR is more like a 22 mag necked down to 17 caliber and performs more like a centerfire rifle. It is in a class of it's own as far as I can see.
Seems to be a bad little varmit round. I've never shot one myself. When they first came out I almost bought one but elected to get a 22 hornet instead and I'm glad I did because I have a little more versitility with the hornet.
Anyways, the 17 hmr definately has it's uses.

Check out what Varmit AL has to say about the 17HMR. Some pretty good info here.

The HM2 will give you .22 mag performance. The HMR will surpass both. The HM2 in my opinion will die in the next couple of years. It simply isn't the same as the .22 mag, and ammo costs as much as for the .22 mag. And with the .22, you have a great variaty of weights and bullets for max. fun. But the HM2 will never be as cheap to shoot as the good old .22 lr.
