RE: 300 mag differences
Difference is everything but the bullet diameter. The chamber shape, the brass construction, the shoulders, everything is totally different. You cannot, shouldnot try to insert any of these in anything they are not chambered for. 300Win Mag is pretty powerful and shines with 150-200gr bullets and generally is 100-200fps slower than a Weatherby Mag. A Weatherby is a larger case, but has a unique shoulder rounded shape and is belted like a win mag. The 300Wthby is generally 100-200fps faster than the Win mag. Another thing unique about the Weatherby is freebore. You cannot seat the bullet to touch the lands and grooves in a Weatherby. The Remington mag, I assume your talking about the Ulltra mag, has more case capacity than the Weatherby, and about 100fps faster than the Weatherby. Unlike the weatherby, it has no belt on the case, and much less freebore but still some.
I mean absolutely no offense by this. But if you have to ask, then all three is a little too much cartridge for a new shooter.

300 win mag- very good all around cart. can purchase it all over north america, can use it for many many different types of game.
BUT it's a big load and if you are going to use it for TX whitail, don't! Go and buy a gun you can shoot. I have a 300win mag for Elk, Bear, and Big Mulies. But it doesn't see any time in the fall WI woods. I have a .243 & 209x.50 Encore for that.
But if you need to have a big bore for deer hunting,,, do look into some of the light loads. There is no need to get a 180gr punched out there at max velocity. Kind of like shooting a 10ga for creek ducks!
Check out some 150gr loads or there may be some custom loads that you can find that don't buck soooooo much.
Good luck

rochelle,
Not all excited BUT in hunters safty they do stress that all rifle ammunition is different and each different load is not interchangeable. It is one of the absolutes that, shooters should know.
It makes you seem to be a novice gun owner, nothing wrong with that, everyone has to learn somehow. I don't blame you but whoever you had for an instructor, ok if you never have taken hunters safety then it is your fault! Interchanging ammo that "fits" is a major cause of gun accidents. There is really no excuse for that type of accident.
OK off of my high horse

I'll answer you calmly. None of the three are interchangeable. The physical difference is in case shape and design. All will shoot the same bullet. In ascending order of average performance (read velocity) you have the .300 Win. Mag, then the .300 Weatherby Mag, and the fastest of the three the .300 Remington Ultra Mag. ON AVERAGE there is about 150 fps separating the three.
I would have to say the .300 Win. Mag is most popular with most availability of ammo and probably a toss up between the Weatherby and RUM.

Sorry, man. I almost got out of control there with the Caps Lock.
I try and refrain from calling people crack smoking idiots while expounding on how great I think I am, like someone else on this forum tends to do.
