hey man, my dad has a 742 woodsman, 30-06 bought in 1972 and he loves it, granted he doesnt shoot 500 -3000 rounds a year but hey, he goes to the range, shoots it, carries it in Nov (killed a nice 7pt last year with it) then puts it away until next year, he likes it, its a great looking gun, and Ive never heard him say one word about it jamming, he has always shot 165 gr Rem cor lokts in it. If you can, try to find one of the 742's used, I've heard they are better than 7400's, I myself own a 760 in 30-06 and can tell you it is a better gun than the 7600's. hope this helped!!!!!!!!

Man, don't be so sensitive. Its just the internet. Too each his own. I am just sure 90%of us, never heard of a remington semi being a wall hanger. Kinda like me asking about a daisy rifle for a wall hanger. Kinda strange. But hey, do what you like. I have a 7400 270 I will sell ya for a good price. With my reloads I guarantee sub2MOA performance too.

742 if your going to buy a remington semi auto look for a good used 742,74 or model 4
i owned one for 10 yrs (742)never shot it . i got a good deal put it away just got it out this year . i'm thinking for michigan deer hunting useing it instead of my 700 bdl's 308 or 7mm mag.but if any remington haters out there have a butt stock or wood set for a 742 BDL that has not been cut down let me know . rifle was good deal cause about 3/4 of an inch cut off the but stock it still shoots but scope is close
ps a freind has the same gun and he too is thinking of useing in michigan deer woods over his 7mm mag winchester B.O.S.S. sytem
